Cancelling my Trial – is that the best option for me?
-
Hi!
Heads up, I’m relatively new to WordPress. It’s been lesson after lesson with this process!
Tonight I registered for the 14 day trial on my blog bonnietylerfanclub.wordpress.com and also chose a domain for it (bonnietylerfans.com). In addition, I bought an external theme from ThemeForest without realising that I was supposed to set up a self-hosted blog in order to use external themes. (through the .org WordPress, not the .com one)
To that effect, I have set up a BlueHost account (recommended by a friend) with my domain (bonnietylerfans.com) but I need to find out if I can transfer this URL? I’m aware that domains have to be registered for 60 days before a transfer is allowed, but that WordPress allows a cancellation within two days, resulting in the URL usually available after four days… if not never available again.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to approach this situation? I’d prefer not to wait for 60 days, as that means two months of BlueHost bills that I’ll be paying for without a site set up.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It depends on how attached you are to the domain. When a domain is canceled, it becomes the property of our registrar partner to do with as they please.
Sometimes they release it for sale in 4 days, sometimes 2 weeks, sometimes they reward it to a backorder auction, and sometimes they give it to someone else before you even have a chance to purchase it again.
In other words, if you really like the domain, I don’t recommend risking it.
Instead, you can cancel the free trial and pay to keep the domain, then for the first 60 days change the name servers to direct it to Bluehost: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/
Then, after 60 days, transfer it to another registrar if you really want to: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/
