If I decide that WordPress is not for me, how do I cancel my user account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You don’t. You can delete a blog, but accounts are never deleted.

Your account is forever and does not cost you anything – accounts can’t be canceled. You can delete your blog but then the name would be gone forever even from you if you change your mind, better to set the blog to “Private” if you want to keep visitors out then the blog is waiting faithfully for your return. Others just delete the content and let the blog sit,
We get a steady stream of people that deleted a blog then changed their mind 6 months later and wanted the old name back which can’t be done, so that is why we recommend you set the blog to Private or just let it sit in case you change your mind or think of something different to use the blog for.
Some people end up just sharing one or two Posts a year with friends. Blogging is not for everyone, but a blog can be used for many things.

Well, I didn’t actually want to blog in the first place. I was only vaguely curious about a friend’s blog, and the site wouldn’t let me in to look without registering and creating a blog address. However, my friend has set her blog to private anyway (suggesting she doesn’t want all and sundry looking at it), and because I’m not really interested in stalking her, I don’t want to keep my account, as I didn’t really want it to start off with.

There’s supposed to be an option that lets you create “Just a username, please”.

The blog linked to your name is empty – my advice – just let it sit – it harms nobody and maybe you will think of something to use it for this year.
When I first had a web site I just put boating education handouts on it and then sent a link to the handout so I did not fill up peoples in boxes – many uses for a web site other than “blogging”
