Cancelling recently purchased GoDaddy domain registration for same at WordPress
-
I recently purchased a domain domain on GoDaddy with the intention of using it to host my WordPress blog. I now see that WordPress can do the same thing for less money and would like to purchase the domain through WordPress. How do I do this? Do I try to cancel my GoDaddy order? Do I just do mapping from WordPress for this year, not renew with GoDaddy at the end of this year’s contract, and then purchase the domain again, this time through WordPress? if so, how would that work in terms of site consistency?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not sure what you want to do after thais year, but yes, mapping the domain for the first year is what you want to do. After that, I don’t know if there is any way to get the domain transferred to wordpress.com.

all of the options to get the domain name registered with WordPress.COM are very bad or worse.
WordPress.COM is not set up to accept incoming domain name registration transfers. So the only way would be to cancel or let the registration expire and then re-register the domain name at WordPress.COM. The problem with cancel or let expire is that you loose control of the name registration. There is no guarantee that you can get the name back. Sometimes the name is put up for auction, it might be held by the registrar for some reason, the name might be bought and held hostage for a large ransom. And the domain name does not work during all of this.
If you don’t like the price at Godaddy – look around a bit – but most registrars are within a couple of four dollars of each other after you discount the first year teaser rates

Thanks, both of you, for the responses. Since I haven’t started building the site with the new GoDaddy domain, which is a .org, I just might scrap the losses with them for this year and register with WordPress for a .net extension
