my domain name expired in october of 2018 but it’s still registered through wordpress.com. I want to cancel the registration through wordpress.com so I can repurchase this domain name through wordpress.org. How can i do that?

The normal procedure is to transfer a domain when you still own it. See:

However you have let the domain lapse and no longer own it. The domain is still in the redemption period and possibly could be recovered back to WordPress.com if you paid the extra charges now due. Then you could move the domain. See:
Your other option is to wait a few weeks/months to see if the domain may/may not be released. If no one else buys it then it may become available for you to register it again somewhere else, but there are no guarantees. It could be purchased by someone else such as a domain reselling company. First, restore your account. I can see you deleted it, but we need to work with the account that purchased the domain. So to restore it (within the allotted time period) please respond to the email we sent confirming your account deletion.
In that email, also let us know you need your domain mymislabeledlife.com restored so you can transfer it elsewhere. We will work with you from there.
