Cannot access
-
We’ve been using WordPress for years to manage our site, but suddenly WordPress isn’t letting us access it, and there’s no information guiding as to why.

What is the URL of the site you’re trying to access?
NOTE: We can only assist with websites hosted here at WordPress.com. If you’re using the WordPress software, but hosted elsewhere, you will need to reach out to your hosting provider or the WordPress.org community for guidance: https://wordpress.org/support/

Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com but instead a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted at GoDaddy.
We cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. But, I can get you pointed in the right direction.
You would need to log into your site here:
https://unitedwaylca.org/wp-login.php
If you don’t remember your login password, you can use the “Lost your password?” link to reset your password.
If you still have trouble, you should reach out to GoDaddy for help with this issue. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you regain access to your site.
If GoDaddy isn’t able to help you or if you still have trouble, please reach out to the WordPress community for guidance:
https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
I hope that helps.

No, that doesn’t help. GoDaddy may host our site, but we manage it through WordPress – and https://unitedwaylca.org/wp-login.php is suddenly telling us we’re using the wrong password (which we’re not). Selecting the lost password option doesn’t help, that page comes up with an error message related to the captcha (which doesn’t appear on the page at all for entering).

Hi there,
To clarify, GoDaddy uses the free open-source version of WordPress that is offered for download at WordPress.org
On WordPress.com we use a custom fully managed version of WordPress as well, but it functions differently than what is offered on GoDaddy. Specifically we use a custom login system (for enhanced security) and our processes for account recovery only work if your site is hosted with us directly.
For WordPress sites hosted on other providers, the process for regaining access is different, so we are not able to help.
The good news is that as long as you have access to the server control panel through GoDaddy, it is always possible to regain access to your self-hosted WordPress site. This WordPress.org support article will walk you through it: https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
You can ask GoDaddy support for direct assistance in completing the steps in that article; they would be in the best position to help.
Hope that points you in the right direction!
