cannot access classic editor and conversion to block editor wrecks alignments
-
Hi –
I created my site (free version) before the conversion to new block editor. I now find my pages uneditable with the new system (impossible to insert images into existing sequences or edit text). When I convert to blocks, I am unable to add or edit text at all, and the preexisting text has lost it’s formatting (e.g. larger line spacing, justification, etc.). Additionally, newly converted paragraph text is totally uneditable – cannot add new text or modify old.
Since I have a free account, I cannot install the older classic editor plugin and when hovering over pages (per online wp instructions) I do not get the (supposedly available) classic editor option.
Can you please tell me how to revert to editing with the classic editor. In the future I would like to use blocks but rebuilding existing pages from scratch is a non-starter and editing them with the block editor does not work.
Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
Please share a link to the post or page you’re encountering this issue so I can have a look.
As for the Classic editor, if you want to revert to that I recommend using the Classic block:

The classic block does not work – it changes the original formatting when I convert. Please let me know how I can use the classic editor. I believe that can be enabled from your end. The page in question is https://wordpress.com/page/winkelsteindesign.com/1107
However it’s the only one I’ve tried and I assume similar issues for the rest of my pages. Again, when I convert to blocks I am able to insert images between existing images but the text gets ruined and I cannot edit ANY image titles or paragraph text at all. Alternatively, if I leave the page as it was, in classic format, I cannot edit or add content within it. Simply not ok. Thanks. -
Ok, you can still use the Classic Editor by following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/
Would you mind leaving that problem content in a test page, so we can work with it to track down what’s going on?

Thanks but the instructions in your link don’t work – I tried that – when I hover over my pages (per instructions for free sites) I do not get an option to use the classic editor – nothing happens. There is no result from hovering. If I click the page in the left menu, it opens the page in the new editor with the problems described above. It seems the classic editor has been disabled. Please advise. Thanks.

My apologies – I had not switched to Classic View in the upper right corner prior to hovering. I have been able to access the classic editor. Thanks very much for your help. Regarding the problem content, not sure what you mean by leaving the content in a test page.
