Cannot Access Dashboard, Editing
-
Recently, I became unable to access my dashboard or any editing tools in Firefox 44.0.2. I can still access both in Google Chrome, so this isn’t urgent, but it is a total lockout.
Booting Firefox in Safe Mode does not fix the problem, nor does flushing cookies or cache. Logging out and logging back in also does not work.
Any thoughts?

That’s so strange because I use FF 44 without any issues at all. I suspect you have a browser addons issue or an extensions issue.
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.If you are not successful type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Thanks, but I’m afraid that just covers ground I’ve already covered (I have flushed the cache, cookies are enabled, and Safe Mode disables extensions as a matter of course). I’ll tag modlook, thanks!

Hi there!
@marathonrecaps: Could you please create a screenshot of what you’re seeing when attempting to edit in Firefox? If you upload it to your Media Library then I’ll be able to view it from there. The screenshot will be a helpful point of reference for us to try and replicate the problem.
Thanks.

Thank you for the screenshot!
Could you please visit the following site while in Firefox for me? It will tell you whether JavaScript is enabled on your browser:
https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/is-javascript-enabled
WordPress.com relies heavily on JavaScript and the same display shown in your screenshot is loaded on browser’s that don’t support it.
It would also be helpful if you could follow these steps to completely refresh your settings in Firefox:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings
This will help us to figure out if the issue is being caused by a setting in your install of Firefox or if there’s some other setting on your computer causing this trouble.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
It looks like Refreshing Firefox worked! It must have found something I missed. Either that or it was something odd with my extensions – long story, but I found something weird when I was reinstalling them – but since the problem was occurring in Safe Mode I’m not sure that’s the case.
Either way, thanks for the extra help and have a great tday!

I’m really glad to hear that refreshing your Firefox settings resolved things!
It’s tricky to pinpoint the exact setting that would have caused access to your Dashboard to be blocked. As you mentioned that the problem was also there in Safe Mode, then it could have been a different setting that blocked JavaScript or third-party cookies. Either way, I’m glad you’re up and running now. :) Let us know if the issue comes up again and we can help troubleshoot.
