cannot access my account

  I set up an account with wordpress through Host Gator. Then, while trying to activate some plugins (Akismet to be exact) I was asked to create an account with wordpress. I did not know my original password (it was a wordpress generated password with a jumble of letters, symbols and numbers). I didn’t write it down, I just asked my laptop to remember, I apparently created a second account with a new user name and password. Now everything I try to do (log in, reset password, change profile. etc. ) is reverting to the second account I created. I do not want to activate the second account. Cannot get back into my first account. Please help.. I am losing my mind!!

  From what you wrote, I understand that your website is not hosted on WordPress.com, but on HostGator. What this tells us is that you are WordPress.org user, not a WordPress.com user.

  This forum is dedicated only to the websites hosted on WordPress.com.

  @trips2128, Hi there, are you talking about the WordPressdotcom username account that you created in order to install Akismet for your standalone WP site?

  If so, please log out of this account first and then try the associated email address in the password reset form here: https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword&wpcom_connect=1

  Here’s the Akismet support guide for password reset for referenece https://docs.akismet.com/account/reset-password/

  You might also need to clear your browser cache and cookies which will also log you out of every other site you are currently logged in to (or try from a Private/Incognito browsing window).

  Let us know how that goes.

  please log out of this account first and then try the associated email address

  That should have read “associated email address for your original Akismet/WordPressdotcom account”

  What is the username of the first account you are having trouble logging in to?
