Cannot access my site

When I login to wordpress it shows ‘my site’ as a blog I used to write several years ago while a doctoral student at Duke University. My personal website, which I created around the time I graduated and my institutional account lapsed is this one: https://rscottwinton.wordpress.com/
I can’t figure out how to edit it now or how to import it into my wordpress account.
    Thanks for any help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • To access https://rscottwinton.wordpress.com/, you will have to login at https://wordpress.com/log-in using the WordPress.com username-password associated with that site.

If you do not remember the password for that login, try using the lost password screen to reset your WordPress.com account password. https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Unless you are able to login into that account, I am afraid you cannot update that site.

The problem isn’t with the password, but with the email address.

I can’t seem to figure out what email address is associated with that account. As far as I can tell there is no email address associated with it at all. All the other email addresses (other accounts I have set up but never use) I type do not have an wordpress account associated with them. The gmail address I listed as a contact email on the wordpress site I am trying to access, is now somehow associated with an older institution-run blog. https://rscottwinton.wordpress.com/contact-2/

I believe that somehow the institution (Duke) has somehow co-opted my wordpress account. That or I used some obscure email account to create my page and have forgotten how to login since I last edited it in October.

I have tried to follow the account recovery procedure but don’t have any of the required information. https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

    I think I’m really screwed.

  • I am afraid if you do not remember the email ID associated with the account you are trying to recover, or if the account recovery process isn’t of much help, you have no choice here.

You will need proof of ownership as mentioned on that account recovery page to regain access to the lost account.

Same here. I cannot access my main blog and I am not getting the help I need. I have a secondary blog which I do not use which I am logged into to post this. I must have set up my blog with an old email account which is now seemingly dormant. I cannot get into that either. I used to log in (for years and years) with my username – this no longer works. Why?

I contacted the expert wordpress help and they were able to send me the username associated with the account, which I could use to successfully login. So problem solved.

You should still be able to login using a username, but if you forget both this and the email address (as I had) you’ll get locked out. The expert support people are able to tell you the username but not the email associated with a blog.

    Hope this helps.

I am assisting you there. In the future, please refrain from posting on others’ threads. You can always post a fresh thread here and we will help.
