cannot access my WordPress blog to update my website

    Hi-
    Around 2012 I created a static blog as part of my website and now I cannot log in to update my information. I use dreamhost as the host, but I have a wordpress account for the blog and I used a wordpress template. I want to make updates but can’t seem to find my blog’s admin. Today I reset my WordPress account password, logged in and found that there are no sites on my account. So then I used the url ending in /wp-admin after the .com to log in and make edits there. However even though I used the same log in credentials I got an error of username/password incorrect. The blog is still visible when I go to my url. I just can’t access it to make changes. Please help!

    If I may make an assumption, I think you may have two different instances of WordPress here.

    There is WordPress.com, which is a blog/site that is hosted on the WordPress server.

    Then there is WordPress.org, which is the CMS software that is free to install on any host you like, such as Dreamhost. WordPress.org should only be one instance of a site you create with it. WordPress.com allows you to have many sites under one username.

    That being said. When you log in, please note what address is in the URL. If the address says “WordPress.com/whatever your site is” then you are using the WordPress.com blogging platform. If the address is “yourawesomesite.com/subfolders-etc” then you are using WordPress.org.

    As for password and username problems. Follow the “reset password” link on the login page, be sure that your browser isn’t automatically filling in an old, outdated, and perhaps wrong username or password.

    Hello Tessa,

    There are no sites listed in the WordPress.com account you are logged in to (tsfreelance).

    It sounds like you have a self hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site. The differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org are explained here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    If your site is hosted on Dreamhost you will not be able to login using the details for your WordPress.com account. I’d recommend speaking to your hosting provider if you are having problems logging in.

    What is the URL of the site you are trying to log in to? I’ll be able to tell you whether it’s a WordPress.com site or not.
