Cannot access my wordpress home from the tor browser
-
Most of the time I get an empty page. After a few (10) new circuits to the site, I get my page for a couple of minutes, and then it disconnects.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
This is clearly a browser related problem as the tor browser is not amongst the supported browsers – https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#supported-browsers
-
Isn’t Tor is Mozilla Firefox ?
How come that with some circuits, I’m able to connect?
It looks like WordPress is blocking Tor
-
Tor is based on Firefox but it isn’t Firefox. Tor has been altered making it incompatible with the wordpress.com platform. Only the browsers mentioned at https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#supported-browsers are supported.

This is a formal answer that doesn’t explain technically why or when Tor works fine with WordPress. I still suspect that like some other sites (e.g. Google) they are not interested because they are collecting information about the users.

Some of the more niche browsers may or may not work with free sites at WordPress.com but I doubt they will lose any sleep if they don’t. It is in large companies interests that users connect via the more popular browsers that supply the appropriate cookies to display ads needed for revenue.

I’m not a technical formed person, I’m just one of the volunteers on this forum. I can tell you for sure it’s a well known issue the Tor browser is very slow or refuses to connect to (wordpress.com) sites.
The Tor browser can work with self-hosted wordpress.org sites, but it needs a lot tweaking an changing server settings. However the latter are most of the time refuses by hosting providers.
“Using Tor Browser can sometimes be slower than other browsers. The Tor network has over a million daily users, and just over 6000 relays to route all of their traffic, and the load on each server often cause latency.”
