Cannot access my WordPress platform

I need help logging into my site (https://gobbetmag.wordpress.com/). I haven’t used it in years, and now it is forcing a password change for “security precautions” and sending the new password to a very old email address that is probably defunct.

Hi there,
Since you don’t have access to the email associated with that site, in order to regain access to it, we’ll need one of the following things:
- A transaction ID for any upgrades purchased for the account
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transaction-id/
- The WordPress.com account activation link, which we sent to your email address when you first registered with us.
For more information, please read our Account Recovery guide:

Thanks for replying. Yes, I knew these things before coming here, from the automated service. This is the problem. In reply: no upgrades were purchased; and secondly, I don’t have access to that email account anymore, as it doesn’t exist, so how can I get the activation link? I can’t see why I can’t just use my original log-in and password. It is an old magazine I used to run and I just want to shut it down.

If I had forgotten my log-in and password, I would be annoyed but accept responsibility for my error. But the fact is I’ve made a point to keep record of them since 2011, when I set up the site, and now WordPress is saying they aren’t good enough to access my account. It’s been 12 years and I cannot get the required information.

Hi there,
You may try using the Lost Password form here: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Enter your WordPress.com username or email address into the text box and click Get New Password. If you don’t know your WordPress.com username or email address, we will need you to fill out the Account Recovery Form here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form
If you’re unable to prove ownership, unfortunately, we won’t be able to help you recover the account. If you’re having trouble proving ownership, our support guide here reviews all available options in more detail: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established
If you wish to start a new site instead, you can create a new account at https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/

Thanks for this information, but I have to say I find this ridiculous. I have my account name and log-in, and it is WordPress keeping me out of the account (on some spurious security precaution). Why not just let me log in with the account I set up? Without the original email account from 12 years ago I have no way of accessing the account. After this experience, I never want to use WordPress again and will advise others avoid it too.
