“Cannot access WordPress.com acc, email changed, need to recover gillybeal.com
-
- My domain: gillybeal.com was registered with WordPress in 2012
- My old email used when I registered the account no longer works: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
- My new email is: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
- I need to regain access to manage my domain but can’t login as old email no longer valid.
- I want to launch my new website design to gillybeal.com but can’t – the host company godaddy says I have to get access from WordPress first
I need to verify my identity and regain access to my account so I can manage your domain properly.
Please help – modlook @modlook

Hi there,
I understand how stressful it must be to be locked out of your account when you need to manage your domain, especially when you’re ready to launch a new site.
I checked gillybeal.com and can confirm it is registered with us here at WordPress.com. Since you no longer have access to the email address on the account, you will need to go through our secure account recovery process to prove ownership.
You can find the steps and the form to start that process right here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership
As noted in that guide, providing the transaction ID from your domain purchase is often the quickest way to verify you own the account.
Because this is a public forum, please do not share any private details (like transaction IDs or personal information) here. Please only submit your proof of ownership through that secure form.
Once you submit the form, our team will review it and follow up with you directly at your new email address.

The problem is I registered the site in 2012! I don’t have a transaction ID – nor any of the other 2 proofs I need. So I am in a Catch22. Can I not provide my passport or something like that? The big problem is that I lived in Singapore when I registered the site – so emails, phone numbers have all changed. I created a site with Strikingly so they can vouch for me – but of course they say I have to go back to WordPress before they can move my site to Squarespace. As I want my site to be gillybeal.com – as I am an artist and that is my name! – I am at a loss on how to prove ownership. The site is registered with Godaddy but they say I have to logon to wordpress before they can do anything – a bit unfair as it was transfered to them without my knowledge.
Please help.

These are the 3 things for proof of ownership:
Do you have a transaction ID?
Do you have an activation URL or key?
Do you have two factor authentication?
I don’t have the previous email ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) and I don’t have the previous Singapore telephone number.
Can I not use Strikingly to provide proof of ownership? Or Godaddy – which now hosts the URL?
Thanks

I can access my site through Strikingly.com and change content there. So why can’t I use that as proof of ownership – and move to Sqaurespace for the design?

Hi there!
It looks like you may have managed to gain access to the WordPress.com account, where you own the domain, gillybeal.com. Could you confirm? I have an email from you (sent from the email address used on that account).
If you’re still having trouble, please let me know and I’ll send you a follow-up email to the email address on this account (which you can check by visiting https://wordpress.com/me/account).
Thanks!

Yes I now have access to the WordPress acount. My new problem is that since I bought the domain in 2012 it has been passed on – to WildWest, the reseller of Godaddy. They are now telling me I can’t have access to my domain with them as I don’t have an account/password. Anyone had any experience with this issue before?

Hi @gillybeal
Your gillybeal.com domain is registered with us here at WordPress.com through Wild West Domains, LLC, and not with GoDaddy. You may manage your domain here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage
I also see that you renewed it a few days ago: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing
Let me know if you have other questions. -
I thought everything was on track for me to upload my new Squarespace desgined website to my gillybeal.com site (currently hosted by strikingly.com).
I thought I’d start by transfering my domain to Sqaurespace so I had everything under one roof, to make life easier.
But I got this message from WordPress:
The transfer of gillybeal.com from WordPress.com to another registrar could not be completed for the following reason(s):
Express written objection to the transfer from the Transfer Contact. (e.g. – email, fax, paper document or other processes by which the Transfer Contact has expressly and voluntarily objected through opt-in means).
And this: The request to transfer the following domain name(s) to another registrar has been denied. The domain(s) currently has Private Registration:
If you still want to transfer the domain(s) to another registrar, you must first cancel your Private Registration(s).
Anyone know how I do that? I can’t seem to find any tab to do so (despite reading I need to click on the relevant tab) on my WordPress.org pages.

@gillybeal we’ve emailed you so that we can better help with the domain questions off the forum and I’ll close this thread so we can help there.
