Cannot Activat WordPress Stats

    Can someone please help me to resolve an issue with WordPress Stats?

    I installed and activated WordPress Stats with an API key that I use on several of my blogs, but because the blog is not one of mine, I wanted to setup the owner with her own API key. So I created a WordPress account, uninstalled the Stats plugin, reinstalled and activated the plugin with her API key and received the following message:

    WordPress.com Stats
    Error from last API Key attempt:

    Missing API Key

    The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account.

    Enter your WordPress.com API key to link this blog to your WordPress.com account. Be sure to use your own API key! Using any other key will lock you out of your stats. (Get your key here.)

    Can anyone help me to resolve this problem?

    You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

    This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

    You need to contact staff directly for help on the stats plugin. The volunteers here in the forums know nothing about it.
