Cannot activate subscription using Follow Blog widget

  A user not logged into WordPress is trying to sign up for this blog. After they click the Activate button in the confirming email they are directed to a page indicating that their subscription could not be activated and that it may have expired. Why?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  I’m sorry but we do not have a copy of the error message so I don’t have an answer. Could you please email that person and get a copy and paste of the error message? Is the person experiencing this issue a WordPress.com user with a username account here or not? If they are may we have the username please?

  @fogisp, could you please ask that user to post here with more specifics? It would be helpful to know their username and the exact error message they received.

  The user has unfortunately deleted the message. We can’t duplicate the message because WordPress apparently remembers that it has already sent the user an activation email so will not send another.
  However, I have duplicated the problem with a second user. In each case they go through the activation process but, the next time they log on to WordPress, the widget does not acknowledge that they are following the blog.

  Forgot to mention that these users are, in fact, receiving notifications of new blog entries even though the widget doesn’t believe they are followers.

  Okay, I’m confused.

  Is this a new follower who does not have a WordPress.com account? Are they trying to follow your blog via email? Or are they creating a new WordPress.com account in order to follow your blog? Are they able to create the WordPress.com account or not?

  It would really help to have a username where this has occurred as well because otherwise I don’t have anything to look at on my end.

  Apologies for the confusion. Two non-WordPress users have used the widget in attempts to follow my blog. In both cases they have been successful in following the blog. However, the widget does not indicate that they have become followers.
  I am a WordPress user. For test purposes, I used the widget to follow my own blog. For me, the widget indicates that I am following the blog.
  Is this a bug or is it by design?

  If a WordPress.com user clicks on your widget, they should see the following when they return to the blog, assuming they are logged into their WordPress.com account at the time:

  

  If they are not logged in, or used their email address (not otherwise associated with WordPress.com) to follow the blog, they will not see that message.
