Cannot add a gallery to a page

  • Unknown's avatar

I have read everything I can find in WordPress.com support and the forums. I have tried and tried for two hours straight, but cannot do it!

I want to add photos from my media library. I watched the video in the help on this. It says you can drag multiple files together, but I don’t see how to do this. Furthermore, no matter what I do, no “gallery” button appears. All I can get the photos to do is to show straight down the page like a blog post.

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Interesting Challenge – however

    [gallery include="428,426,425,308,277"]

The above code is a gallery I just added to a test blog. The numbers refer to the ID numbers from the Media Library.

    See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

Page down toward the bottom to the Gallery Short Code.

I learn something new every day, the support documents are your friend!!

How strange… Now after clicking on “Media Library” and selecting an image, there’s no “Insert” button!

Also, that link is the page I’ve already studied, but it did not help.

    Thanks for trying, though.

I just can’t believe that adding a gallery to a page is so user unfriendly, considering that everything else on WordPress.com works so smoothly.

    Very disappointed…

You need to add each image individually by number in the gallery code string above, yes not very friendly.

The guide I followed is at the bottom and a bit hazy. Just take the code I did and replace my numbers with the numbers for your own images.

PS: The first time I just added the code in the visual mode – to change the images after the draft has been saved you need to edit in html mode / view.

Thanks, once again, but do you have any idea why I can’t get the promised button to appear?

Although I do appreciate your sugggestion, if it’s going to be that tedious, I won’t do it. You see, what is behind all of this is that, as I love WordPress.com and my new blog so much, I was thinking of giving up my gallery site, and buying space here to upload a lot of photo files for galleries, but it seems to not be worth bothering with if there’s no easier way.

If you are making a gallery from pictures on your PC then you just go through the add an image when you are writing or editing your Post or Page, then do the selection of the pictures from your PC and click upload (or the right button forget the name right off hand) and all the pictures are uploaded and put in a gallery in your Post or Page. The making a Gallery from pictures already in the Media Library that seems to be the rough part.

Yes I agree it could be easier. Why not add this as a suggestion in the “Ideas” section.

Thanks for all your input here. I’ll do that…

    Thanks justjennifer

And excuse the correction: “may want to” should read “must”.

I do thank you allvery much for your attempts to help me, and have read the linked post, and more, on justjennifer’s blog,

I have decided now, though, to just keep posting on my blog with photos linked from my gallery site, with a link back to there for the viewing of full galleries, and not worry about creating gallery pages on my blog. This is simpler, as from that further reading I did, if I am going to use photo files uploaded to my WordPress Media Library, it seems I would need to worry about resizing them first to not have degraded image quality.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
