Cannot add a link to my blog post

    Unfortunately trying to upgrade browsers freezes my computer, and in all the years on the net, I’ve never upgraded, no problems with sites, until the computer wore out. I’ve had this problem with wordpress before, and they corrected it in a matter of days. So it’s not us, it’s them, as they may be upgrading….

    And on back reading, I see it’s not just ie7…..

    Sometimes we hang on to old things, and sometimes we must let them go:
    I have a perfectly good Mac daisy computer, running OS9, with IE 4 (??) installed, but I’m not waiting for WordPress to update their software to work with that outdated browser…
    It’s still here because there is one program I use which has never updated to more modern operating systems, but I do know that it is out of date.
    I also collect old lace table cloths, appliqued luncheon napkins, and uranium crystal but I don’t expect any of those things to function as a part of everyday use.

    Updating a browser is not a WordPress issue. Do you have a firewall set up which won’t allow you to update?

    I went to suport, and the message there says they are working on the system, and will reopen it on Monday…. As for my browser, things work fine everywhere else, even at wordpress.org blogs, I can insert links, so they are just working on things for now.

    Yes, staff is closed this weekend.

    Try this:
    support@wordpress.com

    I’m so happy you have resolved your issues. Best wishes with your blogging.

    I’m sad to hear you have not found a solution. I cannot fathom why you computer would “freeze” when you try to upgrade your browser. What I do know is that WordPress.com is on continuous roll-out and new code is being added every day to upgrade the system. What was made clear by Staff in this post is that they do expect us to upgrade our browsers. WordPress.com is not “frozen in time”. A browser is a tool that displays web content and if we intend to blog then we must upgrade our tools or expect less than perfect behavior.

    No problem, I found a way around it posting the links. I can load them in my forum site, and then paste them in the blog. Works fine until all the work is done.

    I am using IE9 and I am having the same linking problem that others are. I hate to load another browser on my computer and change favourites etc. I take it that wordpress is hoping to have this fixed on Monday, or should I just start loading Chrome on my computer? Thx for your help. This little forum has been very helpful. I did all the thing timethief suggested (and thank you for all the good ideas) but I’m afraid they didn’t work. It appears wordpress has changed something and has caused a problem for IE users. Am I wrong in thinking this?

    That’s a weird workaround but I’m so glad to hear it’s working for you. Whew! :)

    @kengray20
    I’m so sorry I was unable to help you. :(

    I noticed the problem with my “pages” not my “posts” about two weeks ago.

    I can add links to new posts but not to existing pages.

    I use Google Chrome and it automatically updates Flash.

    Very frustrating.

    Not at all timethief — thank you for making the big try

    I empathize with you but the only troubleshooting assistance we Volunteers can provide has already been posted into this thread and the other one you posted into. Some members have tried using Chrome and have experienced success.

    I’d hate to download Chrome and change all my browsing stuff and find that IE is working on Monday … if wordpress is repairing this problem.

    I have figured a way around it, but it’s very time-consuming:

    go into “html” and add the link; switch back to “visual” and delete the link and then re-insert in where the deletion took place.

    It works but adds three extra steps for every link I need to add to my index pages.

    @cheesemonger
    Thanks so much for sharing the workaround that you have used. Hopefully others will be able to use it successfully too.

    Hello
    Same problem with me! I’m going to try your advices. Thnx

  • Unknown's avatar

    Here’s the code to type the links in manually…..click on the html instead of visual…..

    type text

    It works, as I’ve tried it….

    @cheesemonger

    Thank you very much: it works! With the html-code linking costs much more time, it’s “time-consuming” (@cheesemonger), but it works!
