Cannot add downloadable audio to posts. Only streamable.

  • Unknown's avatar

I cannot add a downloadable audio file into my blog any more. I have done so in the past over 50 times. I have a new podcast and it cannot add a downloadable file, either. I can add a streamable file, but I rely on the ability of listeners to download new content. I have paid for both Space Upgrades and they show accurately on my sites. Please advise if changes have been made. The help files don’t help. All they do is tell me how to add a streamable file. I know how to do this.
    My old posts appear unaffected.
    My two podcasts are:
    therighteousdude.wordpress.com (the existing podcast)
    theconcast.wordpress.com (the new podcast)
Please help. I have been very happy with WordPress and would hate to have to get my money refunded and go through the hassle of getting another provider.

  • Hi there,

The standard way of adding audio files uses the audio tag, which I see you have used on your new sites 1st post. This is obviously the streaming audio you refer to. For you to be able to add a downloadable file, you need to follow these 2 steps.

    1) Get the URL of the media file:
Go to the Media Admin area and edit the file you wish to link in. Then the URL you seek is found in the top right hand side of the page, field name “File URL”.

    2) Then create a link in your post containing the file URL:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links

I trust this helps solve your issue and service can return to normal for your listeners.

    Happy blogging!

    Regards,
    David

I’ll try that, Dave, but that is new, isn’t it? Also, I tries inserting hyperlink, but it gave the same result.

I got it to work on iTunes, so half the problem is solved.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, not quite half solved. About half of the posts I put up this weekend won’t drop to iTunes, although they are on the WP site.

Nobody has been able to answer “Why the change?”, though. I’ve put 50+ episodes on one podcast easily. Now, it’s difficult.

Nah, Dave. That’s what I had already tried. WP doesn’t even post the link. Just a blank space.
Change is not improvement, people. Not only is it not letting me add download links to my blog, it is only dropping about half my audio to iTunes.
This is NOT what I am paying for.
Go to my other podcast, therighteousdude.wordpress.com, and look at my last post. There are 2 links at the top. One is the stream, the other is the “dedicated” page for that entry, where the file can be right-clicked and downloaded.
That is what I want and what I am paying for. What I have now (on BOTH blogs) is not what I want and what I am paying for.
SO, that being said, how do I get refunds on both sites so I can cancel them and find another service?

    Further info:
When I am in “Visual” view, I do NOT have a hyperlink option. The button is “greyed” out. I must use “Text” view to insert a link.
    And that doesn’t work.
I have tried to add a post with audio to my Righteous Dude podcast and the results are the same, so I don’t think it’s my theme or any other thing I am doing.

This is an example. If I select “Media File”, “Attachment Page”, or “None” when selecting an audio file, this is what I get in ALL 3 INSTANCES! And, this only goes to the streamable file.

Since when does “Attachment Page” and “None” mean streamable? I understand “Media File” being that way.
This is a glitch, and it is recent.

    I think I have found a work-around.
Problem solving is something I am good at, so it may not be an issue.
I will post whether or not it is later, when I can test it over a few platforms.

OK, to the best of my knowledge, I have defeated this glitch. It appears that the links that are added by the WP shortcut buttons put things in incorrectly.
I simply copied a working link from my other podcast and changed the podcast and file names. That appears to have worked.
