Cannot add email link to sidebar

  I am stuck on adding an email link to my sidebar. I have read the page on email links and followed the instructions but it does not work. What I want to do is have people click on the word ‘here” in the sidebar and instantly a new email message pops up from the persons email client with my address filled in in the address field all ready to go, how can I achieve this please?
