cannot add link with visual or html
-
I have followed both sets of instructions in Support, and I’ve tried a couple of different links, but when I preview my page, the links don’t work. The instructions are simple enough, but about half of the users gave them a “thumbs down.” Can someone explain how to add a link?

Precision is important. For instance: the link you’ve put on your Profile Page under Website is incorrect: it’s not
http://(email visible only to moderators and staff)/
it is
http://dottiemccay.wordpress.com/Are you using the Visual or the HTML editor?

I’ve tried using both. Neither has worked for me. I don’t know much about HTML, but I did check to make sure there was not @ included. I was doing a copy/paste of the link.

Here’s the relevant support documentation containing instructions > http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
(1) Exactly what went wrong when you tried to use those instructions? Be descriptive please – provide details.
(2) Which browser and version of it are you using?
(3) Have you tried these troubleshooting techniques and if not then please do so now?

I think one thing to try to establish here is whether the link you have created in your post really does have the right URL in it. If you are using the Internet Explorer 8 browser, here is one way to do it. Look at your post preview, and hover your mouse over the LinkAnchorText you are using for your link. Don’t click it – just hover. Then you should be able to see what wordpress thinks you want the ULR to be, in the very bottom left of your browser screen. Check and make sure this really an address that works when you type it into your browser as an address.
