Cannot add MX records (Invalid Name)
-
I am trying to setup 3rd party hosted email and need to add new MX records. All documentation states to leave “Host” blank, but attempting to do so only results in WordPress not allowing me to add the record due to “Invalid Name.”
Here is that documentation https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/add-email-through-zoho-mail/
I am setting up mail through Zoho.
I need MX records ofmx.zoho.com
Priority 10and
mx2.zoho.com
Priority 20on vgnewswire.net
If a staff member can do this for me that’d be great, and please let me know why I am unable to make this change myself.

After more digging I found this https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/txt-record-cannot-be-created?replies=5#post-2558983
The situation in my original post is apparently a known bug. The changes can be made at https://wordpress.com/my-domains/ and clicking on edit on the domain.

I have the same problem.
I suspect that the proposed solution using https://wordpress.com/my-domains/ doesn’t work. I got another error message: “This record cannot be added, as it conflicts with an existing WordPress.com record.”.

Maybe you have other MX records that need to be deleted before you can add the new one? I had several, I assume default, Google mail MX records that we were never using so I don’t know how else they would have been there. I deleted them before I tried adding the new one so I don’t know if I would have gotten the same error as you have.
All I can say for certain is that using wordpress.com/my-domains did immediately work for us.

daquigle,
I kept the initial MX record “mail handled by WordPress.com email forwarding” because I don’t know how to put it again if necessary.
-
OK, I removed the initial MX record “mail handled by WordPress.com email forwarding” and I could add the two MX records required by zoho.com.
Now, I’m waiting for zoho to understand these changes on wordpress side…
Up to now, I have the same alert on the https://mail.zoho.com site: “The MX Records of your domain(s) _ _ _ _ _.com are not pointed to Zoho and you may not receive emails in Zoho”
Thank you for the help.

5 minutes later……. It works ! :-)
although https://mxtoolbox.com continues to find 2 errors in the configuration.
I spent more than 5 hours trying to solve this issue, but now, it works, I can send and receive email through zohoMail.
