Cannot cancel domain reg within 48 hours

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good afternoon!

I registered a domain and subscription yesterday, and realized I won’t be needing it today. I went through the documented steps to cancel everything. It allowed me to cancel the subscription, but there is no visible option for canceling the domain registration.

I can add a credit card, cancel the privacy protection (which I also tried to do), or remove the domain, but no option for cancel (refund). Am I missing something?

    Any help would be great!

What is the URL of the site?
Which username account that registered it and purchased upgrades for it?

You can view all transactions made with WordPress.com, including payments and refunds, in your Billing History. https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

    Canceling and refunding purchases
There are no prorated refunds. Refunds https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/ are time limited.
    • WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund from date of purchase on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
    • The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.
    • It takes 7 – 10 business days and depending where you live from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received after canceling an upgrade and requesting one.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel any upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and disable auto-renew. See: Canceling and refunding purchases http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

    Canceling domains
It is important to know that cancelled domains are not released by the registrar immediately. Also note that here’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use a domain again as it may be sold to someone else. Therefore you should cancel a domain, if and only if, you are sure you do not wish to use it again.

What is the URL of the site?
    https://lucidpriestess.com/

Which username account that registered it and purchased upgrades for it?
    lucidpriestess

Again, I have reviewed and successfully cancelled all other purchases, and simply do no see an option for cancelling the domain registration, which was purchased less than 24 hours ago.

    Thank you for your help!

Do you wish to let the domain URL go?
Or do you wish to use it one another site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am intending on letting the URL go.

    Hi lucidpriestess,

I can help you with this. Once a domain is cancelled there is no guarantee you will be able to register it again. For this reason we only recommend cancelling lucidpriestess.com if you are sure you won’t need the domain again in the future.

If you are happy to proceed, just reply to confirm and I will cancel and refund the domain for you.

    Thanks!

I am happy to proceed, and accept the consequences! Thank you so, so much! :)

    Hi lucidpriestess,

Thanks for confirming. I’ve cancelled your domain and refunded the remaining $26 to you. There is a copy of the refund receipt in your Billing History:

    https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing

Refunds usually take 7-14 business days to appear on your statement, so the money should reach you around then.

Let me know if you need any further help.
