Cannot Cancel Domain Renewal

I received an email saying I will be charged £15 for my domain renewal. I followed the instructions to cancel this (Dashboard > Manage Purchases > Cancel and Refund example.com), however I got to the confirmation page to see the message ‘This upgrade cannot be cancelled.’
Does anybody know why this is? I’ve tried to find the answers elsewhere online, but no luck.

If you were not able to cancel the domain renewal, add “modlook” to the tags for this forum thread to let WordPress.com staff know that you need assistance with this issue.

Hi @samsonhart, it looks like it had already renewed, actually. Also, if you cancel a domain, you won’t be able to buy it again anytime soon, if it all. Were you planning on using it elsewhere?

It hadn’t already renewed when I tried to cancel it on 22nd December. Now it has renewed but I didn’t want it to – apparently I had 2 days to cancel from renewal in order to receive a refund.
I wasn’t planning I use it elsewhere or at all in the future.
Is there no technical support line I can call? I would like a refund as I don’t want to use the domain!

@samsonhart, it’s best to disable auto renew if you don’t want a domain, rather than renewing and then cancelling within 48 hours. For future reference, auto renew can be disabled here:
