Cannot center image captions
-
Hello,
After the migration to block editor, I’m unable to align to the image captions to the center for new images that have links. Apparently the code generated by the new block is somehow bugged. This is the blog post with the samples:
Gran Bretagna 2018: Le tre o più braccia di Chris e il Deambulazio berserker
I have tried to paste a dedicated css in the bottom right box but nothing is happening. I’m not in a pro subscription so I can’t install any plugin.

Hi Nicola,
This isn’t a bug, but rather that the block editor uses a different type of HTML code to create image captions than the classic editor used to use. And older themes, like Independent Publisher that you’re using, don’t have any styling specified for the type of HTML the image block uses to display captions, so it falls back to the default styling specified in the browser for that HTML tag.
We’re aware of this issue, as it affects several of our older themes, but I’m not able to guarantee that this is something that’s going to be fixed – we are slowly retiring older themes that don’t fully support the block editor as new block-based themes become available instead.

Hi Kokkieh,
Thanks a lot for your kind and prompt response. I understand what you are saying and I think that the only way forward is to switch to a new template then. I have two further questions:
1) Do you know if there is a similar template of Independent Publisher but compatible with the new blocks?
2) If not do you know where I can find a list of free template fully compatible with the new block version? Thanks and regards

If you go to My Site ->Design ->Themes, the first group of themes that load are all new themes that were specifically designed for the block editor.
I wouldn’t say any of them are similar to Independent Publisher, as all of them are really a completely new approach to creating a WordPress theme. So they don’t treat traditional elements like widgets, header images, menus, etc, in the way you’re used to.
But they were designed for blocks, which in theory allows you to create any layout you want using blocks within the editor.
Before switching to one of those, perhaps consider creating a private test site in your account and importing some of your content to that site. Then you can play around with those themes a bit to see what’s possible before committing to one.
