Cannot change domain's nameservers

Hi. We bought/registered the domain teoriadoscuidados.com on WordPress.com . Now I’m trying to change to point that domain to a 1and1 hosting, which requires the Nameservers to be changed to ns63.1and1.es and ns64.1and1.es but WordPress.com won’t allow it. The “Change name servers” guide in support is outdated or non-functional. I’ve read that contacting the team gets the issue solved,
    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I can help you with that.

When you say “won’t allow it”, what exactly happens? Are you getting an error message when you try to enter those nameserver values? Or are the instructions just not getting you to where you need to be to in order to update nameservers?

The instrucions (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/) show a standard DNS editor with fields, but in Dashboard-Domains-Edit DNS settings, i can only set A, CNAME, TXT, MX and SRV dns via text, but not normal nameservers (or maybe I don’t know how to do it this way?)
I’ve read a lot about it trying to solve it and some users said I needed direct staff contact to change nameservers.
(My new hosting doesn’t have an A record to use, only the nameservers (ns63.1and1.es and ns64.1and1.es).

    Thank you.

  • You do not need staff help to set nameservers. Or rather, I’m happy to help you understand what you need to do in order to set them, but it is not something that a staff member is required to make happen.

So, you are just getting tripped up by a small item. You are clicking the “edit DNS” link rather than going to the “what would you like to do” dropdown that has the “Make changes to DNS” option. Check out this screenshot:

When you choose the “Make changes to DNS” option from the dropdown, you will see the password setting fields and link to open up the domain manager.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Oh God… I feel stupid because I didn’t see that dropdown at all and looked like 7 times that guide…
Thank you so much. I’m guessing I should just delete all the input in “Edit DNS” to just let nameservers work and wait.

    Thank you (and sorry). :)

rootjosh, what should I do to use email with that domain using my new hosting (1and1)? Since DNS Edit sections need the nameservers pointed at wordpress for MX records to work.
I’m not sure if with only the nameservers changed, the email will arrive to the 1and1 hosting (creating the appropiate email acount there, of course).
    :)

Yes, thank you very much rootjosh. All is working fine. You can close the topic.
