Cannot change picture profile

  • Unknown's avatar

OMG the main function of your service doesn’t work! When I click ‘Update profile photo’ I see this:
‘Gravatar now allows you to use a WordPress.com account to sign in. If you have a WordPress.com account already then you can use that, or you can create a new one.’
OK, I click ‘Sign in with wordpress.com’ and then I see ‘We sent an email to (email visible only to moderators and staff) when you signed up for Gravatar’. But there is no email in my inbox! Even in spam folder.
OK, I click ‘create a new one’. Then I see ‘The token of this login URL has expired.’
What is that? Please fix the problem and help me to change profile photo.

  • Hi there,

This is happening because you never activated your account when you first created it a year ago. We’ll now need to activate it manually. I’ve sent you an email to help with that.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I activated my account when I first got it. Now I need to go back and change my Gravitar picture. It keeps telling me I need to activate my account. I go back to the email and it still says I need to activate it!

  • @hoehnfla

Your account’s logs doesn’t show the email verification when you created it, so perhaps it never went through correctly at that time. I’ve sent you an email so we can activate it manually. Please reply there and I can get this sorted out for you.

Hi I’m having a similar problem. This gravatar is a mismash of me (Kathie) and my old coworker (Tjohnson).

It’s my old twitter handle, my current Lin and FB. His photo and username.

    https://en.gravatar.com/dwtjohnson

He gave me the info to log into his wordpress account (I’m currently logged in) so I can change it but I’m getting the same error message as neekeesh. Is there anyway to just delete this gravatar so we can forget it all together? My email is coming up in gmail with his name sometimes and it’s annoying! ha Thanks for your help.

  • @dwtjohnson

I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying you took over someone else’s account? Why not just create your own account? Gravatar accounts are intended to belong to individuals, not to be shared by several people.

The image that will appear on WordPress.com is the image that’s set for your primary email address in Gravatar, or the email appearing in your WordPress.com account settings:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

Update the email address to the correct on there, and it should start showing the image you have associated with your email. However, if your email address is already associated with another WordPress.com account you won’t be able to change to it.

I also see your Gravatar account has several secondary emails attached:

    https://en.gravatar.com/emails/

If one of those should be the primary email, please update it there in Gravatar, and it should update on the WordPress.com account as well. I also suggest you clean up/remove any emails that don’t need to be attached to this account, as you’re only causing trouble for yourself by having gravatar images/emails for so many different people in a single account.

If you don’t want the dwtjohnson username either, the best is to just create your own WordPress.com username account instead. Make sure you remove your email address from this Gravatar account first.

Or you can change the username for this existing account via the account settings link I gave above. Note that a username change cannot be reversed, and if you choose to discard the dwtjohnson username no one will ever be able to use this username again, including you.

Thank you for your response! I have no idea how our gravatar got so mixed. Neither of us remembers creating it. And I have no idea why all those emails were attached to it, those were contributors to our magazine. But anyway you must have done something that enabled me to log in and remove any of my information (Kathie) so the account only has Taylor’s so we should be all set. Thank you so much for your help!

  • You’re very welcome! I’m glad you managed to get it sorted out :)
