Cannot change url of file media after upload
-
hi,
I am uploading my media files into WordPress but the domain that WordPress uses by default is the old domain, not the domain that I now use after upgrading to the starter plan and purchasing a domain.
I cannot see a way to edit the url of the media files after upload either as I’ve seen some other posts suggest.
How can I resolve this so that media file URLs sit on the correct domain my site uses?
Could it be happening because I have two sites (one with a paid plan/domain and the other not) sitting under the same account?
let me know if there’s any other information I can provide.
TIA

Hi there,
I understand you’d like the URL of your files to include your new domain, instead of the default wordpress.com address. This is not an option that’s available for website on the Starter plan.
When you are using our advanced hosting features, which would involve installing custom plugins or themes, the URL of media on your site will be automatically updated to include your domain name. However, this requires upgrading to the Creator plan. You can find more information about the Creator plan on this link.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Let me clarify a bit further.
My paid for domain is everafterweddingcars.co.uk but the media files uploaded to this site are always being given the domain https://jets2024.files.wordpress.com when uploaded to WordPress.
I’m happy for files to be showing .wordpress.com but as you can imagine I’d like my site visitors to see the files hosted on everafterweddingcars and not jets2024.
Do I understand correctly based on your feedback that all my media files for everafterweddingcars.co.uk should be showing as being on jets2024.files.wordpress.com?

Hi there,
Do I understand correctly based on your feedback that all my media files for everafterweddingcars.co.uk should be showing as being on jets2024.files.wordpress.com?
Yes, you are correct. Since your site everafterweddingcars.co.uk is currently on the Starter plan, the media files will be hosted on the default WordPress.com URL (jets2024.files.wordpress.com) instead of your custom domain.
You must upgrade to the Creator plan to have your media files served from your custom domain (e.g., files.everafterweddingcars.co.uk). The Creator plan includes advanced hosting features that allow for this customization.
Could it be happening because I have two sites (one with a paid plan/domain and the other not) sitting under the same account?
Having multiple sites under the same account should not affect the media file URLs. The URLs are determined by the plan level of each individual site.
If you decide to upgrade to the Creator plan for everafterweddingcars.co.uk, the existing media files will automatically update to use your custom domain URL. Any new uploads will also use the custom domain.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I’m here to help.
