cannot change user email

  I cannot change user (my own) email address in the backend of the website. Nor can i change the photo. When i change the email address (and hit update) i get a notification that the email address will not be confirmed until i respond to the email sent to my email, but i receive no email (checked spam of course) at either the old nor the new emails. What to do?
