Cannot change username

I have managed to transfer an existing blog over to another user account. I now cannot change the username of this account to match the wordpress blog address. I can only change the display name. It says that my chosen username is already taken, but that was taken by me before I transferred the blog, so now that it has been transferred, that username should be free.

Any ideas?

No, just the blog name, so I cannot understand why it says it’s not available when I try to change it

I would contact support. I believe that when you create a user it reserves the same name in case you want to create a blog with that name, and when you create a blog it reserves a username because most people just use the “create me a blog and user” option to get both with the same name.

If I am right then when you created the blog it would have reserved that username so nobody else can use it. The system does not know that you are the owner of that blog – maybe the staff can intervene and change the name for you.

I created a WordPress.com account with UsernameX and created blog address BlogAddressX. Subsequently I wanted to use UsernameY and BlogAddressY instead so I deleted BlogAddressX and created BlogAddressY – no problem there. However I am unable to change my username to UsernameY. Help!
