cannot change website address
-
Hello!
I hope this message finds you well. I’ve got back to this WordPress site of mine and I’m trying to setup my website. I have a separate website fabio.tartarini.net and I’m trying to setup the WordPress blog to redirect there.
in the past, the website set up on WordPress was fabio.tartarini.net/blog.
today I’ve tried to redirect to the root website. Now I can only see the joomla installation I already have on that site, rather than the WordPress I had previously.
I seem to be unable to reinstate the previous /blog redirect. Also, whilst I just installed various plugins, now there are no plugins installed.. which is terribly weird!
Two questions:
– is it possible to have WordPress in the main URL fabio.tartarini.net rather than a parent folder (/blog)? how can I do so?
– alternatively, how can I change the website to the /blog previously setup?thank you very much !
WP.com: Unknown
Jetpack: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Please note that your site is not hosted by us at WordPress.com. I see you had a WordPress.org site connected via Jetpack, which means you had a WordPress site at fabio.tartarini.net as you mentioned (although it shows a Joomla installation at the moment), but that site was hosted elsewhere.
The main domain, tartarini.net, is pointed to Hostgator. Perhaps the subdomain is also hosted by them? As your hosting service provider, only they can help you with this so you’ll need to reach out to them and ask for help with restoring the WordPress site and possibly moving the WordPress site to a subdirectory (in /blog).
These aren’t things we can help you with as your site isn’t on WordPress.com (and we don’t support
/blogtype subdirectory sites on WordPress.com), so you’ll need to contact Hostgator support. You can also post on the WordPress.org support forum for general directions: https://wordpress.org/support/forumsIf you can get access to the WordPress site you already have, you may consider using Jetpack Backups which lets you backup your site and restore it. This will be useful when you’re moving from one location/server to another. You can learn more about Jetpack Backups here: https://jetpack.com/upgrade/backup/

Thank you for your reply.
I’ll try to resolve the issue. however, it is weird that everything was working fine until I’ve changed the WP address site on Jetpack (from /blog to the main site). I appreciate my website is hosted by another provider, although this was working fine until few hours ago.
While I understand what you say, I’m struggling to understand why WordPress.com is not recognising my WP site (that stays with WP) and is instead pretending I have never had even a post. Just because of a redirect? It fails me.
If I’ve got an account on WP, then the blog contents should still be on WP, not get lost because of a change in the website? there’s no logic I can understand, unless it’s a failure on the WP side. Can you help with clarifying this please?

Hello there,
While I understand what you say, I’m struggling to understand why WordPress.com is not recognising my WP site (that stays with WP) and is instead pretending I have never had even a post. Just because of a redirect? It fails me.
It’s possible the change in address may have something to do with this.
My advice would be to disconnect from Jetpack as per these instructions: https://jetpack.com/support/disconnect-jetpack-sites/
Then reconnect via these instructions: https://jetpack.com/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/
I hope this helps.

hi @aleone89,
thank you for your input.
I have disconnected jetpack and I’m not sure whether that was a good idea..
when I go to “my site” (to start the re-connection) it tells me “you don’t have a wordpress sites [sic] yet”.
So I’m not sure where my past posts and blogs are, as well as the plugins and settings I chose.
is everything lost?
To add.
before the disconnection, I coulnd’t see the jetpack plugin amongst the plugins (there was actually no plugin) and I couldn’t see any of the posts on my blog, although the counter said I had 9 of them published. I’m baffled and confused..thank you very much.

It sounds like you are needing help more help with the Jetpack plugin than we are able to provide here. Our expertise is in helping with sites hosted directly on WordPress.com (where we set up and managed Jetpack for all sites)
While we have some experience with the Jetpack “plugin” for self-hosted WordPress sites, we’ve tried the obvious things we can think of. It sounds like you could really benefit by having our Jetpack experts take a closer look.
Can you please reach out to them by asking here? Feel free to share a link to this thread so they can see what ground we covered to this point. Thanks!
