I am currently logged on. I want to comment on another user’s WP blog. I get the message “you must log on.” When I try, neither my username nor my email address is recognized, either for purposes of commenting NOR for purposes of “recovering” my password. If I go into my settings, I can easily see both my username and email, yet the WP “recover password” interface does not recognize either. Now I am afraid to logout in case I cannot not on again!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please post an active link to the blog you cannot comment on starting with http:// We get bloggers posting here every day who refer to WP and the first thing we have to ascertain is if they are referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog or to a WordPress.org install for self hosting. The two are different and completely separate. Two different username accounts and passwords are required. Please read this > WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org: The Differences

I am currently logged on to my WP.com account. I want to comment on another user’s WP blog (http://underthetablebooks.com/blog/). I get the message “you must log on.” When I try EITHER to log in with my WP.com info OR my WP.org info the following happens: Neither my username nor my email address is recognized, neither for purposes of commenting nor for purposes of “recovering” my password. If I go into my WP.com settings, I can easily see both my username and email, yet the WP “recover password” interface does not recognize either.

Go to the footer of this blog http://underthetablebooks.com/blog/ and locate this “powered by WordPress” link. When you click it you arrive here http://wordpress.org/

It is a WordPress.org install. That is why your WordPress.com username and password are not recognized.

If you wish to create a WordPress.org username account click this link http://wordpress.org/support/ and register your account on the top right hand corner of that page.

Actually, a wordpress.org password will not get you into that blog.

The blog owner wants you to register specifically with that blog. You should NOT make this password the same as your other wordpress password.

When I go to the end of the posting in this blog http://underthetablebooks.com/blog/, it says “You must be logged in to post a comment.” When I click on “logged in” I am taked to the WP.org login page. I can find no place within the blog to register.
