To rule-out a plugin conflict, would you please try temporarily deactivating all plugins?
Theme functions can sometimes interfere like plugins, so if that doesn’t work, please try temporarily switching to the Twenty Eleven theme.

Can you please try installing the Jetpack Compatibility Plugin so we can see some additional information from your site?
1) Download the plugin from http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/jetpack/branches/jetpack-compatibility-test.zip
2) Upload the plugin to your site via Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New.
3) Activate the plugin and go to Plugins -> Jetpack Compatibility Test.
4) Click the “Select All” button.
5) Send the results of the test back in a reply. -

I made some changes. Could you please disable all other plugins, switch to the default theme and reactivate Jetpack. Also make sure you are running the latest WordPress and Jetpack version: http://www.wordpress.org and http://www.jetpack.me

Nope. I deleted my existing jetpack plugin. Downloaded a new copy from jetpack.me. I have wordpress 3.3.1. I get this error:

This appears to be a host issue. It looks like you’re on WP Engine, and they do offer support for Jetpack running on their servers, so I recommend getting in touch with them about this.
