Cannot Connect wordpress to mailchimp

  I am attempting to use mailchimp with my wordpress site with no luck. I asks to paste code into the header.php and I cannot seem to access the header.

  I then attempted to paste the popup code into the mail chimp widgets but this is not working either. Can you help? When I go to mail chimp it says the site is not connected.

  With a free WordPress.com site, the pop up option is the only MailChimp integration supported. These are the instructions you will use: https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp/

  Could you clarify for me which site you are working on?
