Cannot customise my Sketch theme

  • Unknown's avatar

The instructions tell me to go to SETTINGS – READING there is no READING option so I cannot customise my page. I do not want my entire blogs to show up on my home page I want it to look exactly like the demo page. Please can someone help???

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – if you’d like to make your site look like the demo, here are the basic steps:

    1. Create a page you’d like to use as your front page.
    2. Assign the Portfolio template to it.
    3. Head to the Customizer‘s Static Front Page panel and choose static front page, then select the page you just created.
    4. Publish some portfolio projects so they’ll appear on the front page.
    5. Set up Featured Content if you want a slider.

The full instructions provide more detail, but just let me know if you get stuck again.

Sorry about that – this refers to the older WP Admin dashboard path. I’ve updated the wording to reflect the newer Customizer location, but there is some server-side caching so it may take a while for the wording updates to appear.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I think I may have to change the theme as want is to display my blog posts with a picture on my homepage, without showing the content of the blog. Is this possible with Sketch? Or is there a better theme for me?

  • Ah, thanks for clarifying what you’re after. In Sketch you can use the More tag to keep things set up as they are but display only a portion of each post on the blog page.

Let me know if this gives you the effect you’re looking for!

That really does help thank you so much. My last question (sorry for so many questions) can I change the size of the featured photo so that they are smaller squares? Ideally I’d like the layout of the home page to be small squares of featured photos for each blog post (like the demo page) if that’s makes sense…. thanks again

  • It’s not possible to change the dimensions of the featured images on the blog page, but if you want, you could add square images right within the body of your post instead of using featured images. You’d need to do the resizing in a graphics program before re-uploading them in the body of each post – that’d give you control over their shape and size.

Even if you did that, though, the posts wouldn’t appear in a grid format as they do on the Sketch demo. Sketch displays portfolio projects in a grid, not regular posts.

There are some themes like Pictorico and Cubic that display regular blog posts in a grid format – you might want to check them out in case they better fit what you have in mind! Neither of those has a sidebar widget area, though, if that’s crucial. Let me know how it goes!

That’s great thank you I have decided to change to Cubic, you have been so helpful I can’t thank you enough!

  • Wonderful, glad you’re liking Cubic!

Feel free to start a new thread if we can help with anything else. :)
