cannot customize any theme

Add topic to favorites
Whenever I try to customize any of the Themes, I get a black strip down the right hand side saying “loading design tools…” with a totally blank page. Nothing appears, then if you leave it for long enough the message changes to “something went wrong” this has been like this for 3 days, and it happens in both Firefox and Safari.
If you could help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Before you do that, what kinds of customization are you trying to do?

Just the straight, free personalising of a theme with my own pics, copy etc. Wednesday/Thursday when I started I was having no problems. Since Fri all I get where you’re supposed to get the modification tools on the right is “Loading design tools…” ( I was using Hatch, but as a test I tried others too.

Yeah, customize flashes the theme you are trying out, and then it goes blank and only the background shows for the theme. I did have it working for about 10 minutes, but now it is not working. The new side interface is there, however. I think that WP is working on upgrading or maybe improving the theme customizer. I was using both safari and chrome with the same problem.

Hi evansafterimage,

On your http://evansafterimage.wordpress.com/ site, can you either create a blog post, or create a page and then set your Settings -> Readings “Front page displays” setting to that static page, and then try again? Let me know if that solves it for you. Thanks!

You’re welcome evansafterimage! Can you please let me know though, is there any sort of delay when you try to use the Customizer?

BSBYTFfan83: If you write a post or create a page and set it as the front page of your site in Settings->Reading, it should fix the issue for you.
