Cannot Edit DNS Records
-
When I try to edit my DNS records for a domain I own, I get an error stating the following:
Hostname is not in expected format: mckinneyrunnningclub.com..mckinneyrunningclub.com.
It doesn’t allow me to delete existing records, add new ones, or edit existing ones.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
What are the specific DNS values you are trying to add?
I suspect the issue is that the WordPress.com user account you are posting from is not the owner or admin of the domain you are trying to update. This typically happens when you’ve ended up with a second WordPress.com user account and that second account is the one that owns the site. You’ll need to log into THAT user account in order to make any changes.
If you do not have access to that second account, here are a few options:
Account recovery overview – https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/
Lost password tool – https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Account recovery form – https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recoveryFinally, even if you do not have access to the correct account, if you have your payment information you can use our “Why was I charged?” tool. It was built for situations such as this:

I am trying to remove the existing MX records, then add new ones for email forwarding. I am not aware of any other accounts I might have, although I do know that I have Admin privileges for this site.

Hello there,
Are you able to access the settings on this page: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/mckinneyrunningclub.com/edit/mckinneyrunningclub.com

Thanks for confirming. It seems to me that the page is working correctly when staff tries to visit it. You see this error message as soon as you arrive on the page, or only after you try to add a record and save your changes?
Can you share the records you are trying to add (here in your forum reply) so we can see what happens if we try to add them?
Thanks for the additional info!

Right now, I’m just trying to remove all MX records. I get the error when I try to make any changes to the records (add, edit, delete) all have the same error.
-
You are just trying to delete all current records, with no records to replace them with? Thanks for clarifying.
-
For now, yes. Once the underlying cause of this error goes away, I plan on adding new MX records for email forwarding.

Thanks for your patience while we sorted this out. We had to have one of our developers clear out those records.
Could you check again and let us know if you still see that error? Thanks!
-
Thanks, that worked for me! I was able to add my new MX records, and this issue is now solved.
