Cannot edit home page image

    I’m very au fait with wordpress.org CMS but have just created a wordpress.com free site and have NO idea how to edit things. I’ve managed to edit the headline but there are NO instructions as to how to change the background image or anything else for that matter. Very disappointed. Please advise if you can. It says on the page click the ‘Edit’ link to edit the home page. But there is no ‘Edit’ link!!!!!

    Hi I am still struggling with this. I am very well-versed in wordpress.org and yet .com seems so difficult to understand. Perhaps if I tell you want I want. Basically I want a blank canvas so I can put my own header in, perhaps a rotating banner, and a menu and be able to add images and have my own choice of solid backgrounds. I don’t want a theme. I don’t want a mountain as my main background image. But I can’t seem to be able to remove the theme imagery. Why not? This is driving me crazy. Please advise if you can help. Thanks.

    there are NO instructions as to how to change the background image or anything else for that matter.

    Have you checked the support page for your theme at https://wordpress.com/theme/exford?

    This theme doesn’t support custom backgrounds. The background you see for the top section on the front page is the background for a cover block added inside the page itself. So you change that by editing the page, and modifying the content of the cover block:

    A WordPress website cannot exist without a theme. But the Exford theme you’re using is about as close as you can get to a blank canvas, without completely creating your own WordPress theme from scratch. Exford is designed to be used with the block editor, and you completely control the appearance of every page from within the editor itself, by adding the blocks you want.
