Cannot edit or delete a draft post
-
Hi,
A problem developed when I was working in the code editor on a particular post. The editing environment froze, the browser page filled with yellow and the post content disappeared. I am now unable to access any drafts from Posts > All Posts > Drafts, when using the Default view dashboard. The menu indicates drafts but when clicked yields ‘No Posts Found’.
I can see all drafts via the Classic view dashboard, but cannot edit or trash the post I was working on when the problem evolved. Trying to edit that post via the classic editor option allows the post to load but the screen freezes with the prompt to continue editing in block editor. The visible word number is 673,810. The actual word count is about 9,000. Other posts can be accessed, edited and trashed as expected.
Trying to edit via the post in question in Block editor yields a blank screen at this URL:https://luckylosing.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10743&action=edit
Page source view > console reveals a number of 400 and 404 errors, with the “Origin” blog banner.
Errors also include a 500 “Failed to load resource; the server responded [URL] which points to:
{“body”:{“code”:”rest_forbidden_context”,”message”:”Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post.”,”data”:{“status”:401}},”status”:401,”headers”:[]}
Widget errors point to “No Input File Specified”.I can also see the drafts on the iPhone WordPress app and the draft I was working on at the time the problem developed (11 Apr 2023) shows ‘Local changes’ in orange font. When I try to Trash that draft I get the following error code:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (WordPressKit.Word-PressComRestApiError error 7.)
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Regards,Paul.

Hi there,
Upon further inspection of your issue, we noticed that your recent post contained a substantial amount of content (tens of thousands of words). Unfortunately, we cannot scan that volume of text to pinpoint the problem. However, we have successfully restored your post to its state before the error occurred.
You can access the restored editor view here: https://luckylosing.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10743&action=edit
We’re curious if you have been copying and pasting large portions of content from other sources. Since online editors are HTML-based, pasted text may sometimes include code that creates conflicts with the WordPress editor, even if you cannot see it in the visual editor. To prevent potential issues, we recommend pasting as “plain text” to eliminate any problematic code: https://wordpress.com/support/microsoft-word/#plain-text
Please also remember that WordPress is a web-application and not a native computer application with dedicated resources. The editor may struggle to display excessively large amounts of content, such as tens of thousands of words. To ensure smooth operation, we advise dividing extensive text into several smaller pages or posts.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi staff-totoro,
Thanks very much for your assistance. Restoring the post has solved the access problems I was having.
To answer your question; I didn’t c/p large amounts of text or code as all text except for jump links, was already drafted. But yes, whilst I could not edit the post, I could see via the classic editor display, a word count of 673,810. The post itself is 9,471 words.
The problem occurred when I was coding anchor link destinations as such: <a name= “example”>example</a>. Thus I believe your reasoning is sound in that a conflict within the WP editor arose, but I’m at a loss as to why the word count multiplied to the extent it did. I’m aware of the Advanced HTML Anchor Link block settings in the right sidebar: https://wordpress.com/support/splitting-content/page-jumps/ and that the generated code is different to the anchor name value I’d used.I will be sure to use the right sidebar option in future.
Once again, thank you.
