Cannot edit posts or pages in WYSIWYG mode

  • Unknown's avatar

Today I noticed that I’m no longer able to edit posts or pages in WYSIWYG mode. Instead, I can only do it in HTML mode, and there’s no way to get to the mode I normally use, which is very inconvenient for me. Has anyone else been having this problem? Is it something temporary, or is it possibly caused by something I did?

Perhaps you should check the setting here => Users => Your Profile and make sure that the checkbox beside ___ “Use the visual rich editor when writing” is not checked. Then click “Update Options” to be sure that the change is made.

It happens on occasion, usually when staff does an upgrade of the software. TT’s method ususally fixes it. If it still doesn’t work, try logging our, clearing your browser’s file and cookie cache and relogging in.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks timethief and drmike! I’m back up and running again.

I’m happy to hear you are up and running. :)

I cannot edit my pages after I create them under manage pages. I think I dont have some rights set correctly. I went over and made sure that that option was checked on mine and it was.

You have not provided enough information.
    (1) What’s the link to your blog? It’s easier to help when we can see.
    (2) What’s your operating system and which browser and version of it are you using?
    (3) Have you tried this? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/06/force-refresh/

Im am using windows XP while at work and Windows 2000 on my desktop at home and Windows XP on my laptop on home. I am using right now Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2O
I was not told to refresh my browser so no I did not try it. I can edit the pages that were created the other day, but not any that I have created today.

iamkacom, it’s usally a good idea to read a sticky post labeled “Please Read Me First Before Posting”

You’re at the wrong site as these forums are for the support of the blogs hosted here at wp.com. You’re running different software and need to be over at http://wordpress.org for support.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh yes I remember, the site that has no support at all, and is so vauge on the details and its better to do trail and error to fix it, or just go to someone who has went through this whole ordeal before and see if they know about it. I will try that latter since this link you gave me lacks relevant information to anything related to wordpress. Thank you

Considering I’m over there for a couple hours every day answering questions as well, I disagree with your “No support at all” statement. Please remember that there’s only a few folks there who help where they can and hundreds of folks with questions, most of them which have been answered in the past but yet they can’t be bothered with taking the time to look.

Thanks for the insult by the way. So glad that I help folks where I can.

Gotta admit it’s assholes like you who make me wish I’d go find something else to do during the day instead of helping where I can.

The only thing I foud over there was What is a Page, what can a page be type stuff that is no use to me. I have yet to find any detailed information. So maybe you know somewhere that I dont. I gave .htaccess full writes and I dont know what else needs full rights to edit a page, and I have found nothing there to tell me anyting about it, I have yet to find a forum of anykind on there.

I did not get into name calling. Aggravated that there is no help for basic questions. They assume you know how to setup everything. But there are plenty of answers on how to use combo boxes and radio button on contact forms, there are plenty of answers on everything else that is way past basic. The tutorials area freaking joke, but I did finally find the forum and like I said no help with any basic stuff hardly at all. I guess Ill have to ask questions. Maybe someone will answer an assholes question over there. If not then Ill figure it out myself and then maybe write an hell of a lot better tutorial that the one on the site.

You have written many words here but have failed to articulate specific questions pertaining to Pages. Now you can post over at http://wordpress.org/support where the bloggers have the same software that you do. Perhaps they may have more patience in dealing with your needs and your attitude but, I wouldn’t count on it.

my specific question was why can I not edit my pages when I have 777 rights on the .htaccess files, but I learned through trial and error that when I disable the Akismet plugin which I was told to use for email forms I was able to edit pages. I was given a simple form code to and it would not show correctly so I went to edit it and it would not edit. I can create a simple html file and edit it there. Just not that one page. The attitude comes from not finding any relevant answers to my questions for the last few weeks. Man if I could find some help wth some stuff and not vauge answers that dont tell you the details then I would not have any attitude. actually this it the only place that I have done this at. When I finaly found a forum about wordpress and think my question is going to get answered I get told to go elsewhere to the same place that I searched through the vauge(elementary) tutorials earlier. Its like finding water in ther desert and then realizing its a mirage. I did find the forum over there and I will try and use it when I get home.

You can’t get support for your site from a completely different system; that’s what we’re running. Our answers are different over here because our software is very different. We CAN’T help you. They can.

    @iamkacom
This forum is only for those who have blogs hosted by wordpress on this wordpress multiuser wp-MU blogging platform. We run on different software than the software you download from wordpress.org. You need to go to http://wordpress.org/support and ask your questions there.

  • Unknown's avatar

    End of discussion.

iamkacom, please head to http://wordpress.org as that’s where you need to be. I answered over 40 questions over there yesterday. I try to help where I can. If someone didn’t help you, well all I can say is I’m sorry. We do the best that we can.

Continuing on with your rant after being told you’re in the wrong place just proves my point.
