Cannot edit site
-
Hi,
I just created a new site under URL naptownswing.wordpress.com but don’t see any controls in the left panel for editing the site.
I suspect this is because I had tried to create a paid URL naptownswing.com but then decided halfway through to try the free domain naptownswing.wordpress.com first. I ended up with a free URL naptownswingcom.wordpress.com and naptownswing.wordpress.com.
While having these two domains, when I logged into wordpress for naptownswing.wordpress.com the user profile domain was shown as naptownswing.com .
I tried fixing this by deleting the site naptownswingcom.wordpress.com, and now I can log into naptownswing.wordpress.com, but the left navbar does not show any options to edit the site.
Apologies for the long and confusing description, but hopefully there’s something you can do to help.
Best regards,
Chris -

Hi Chris,
You cannot edit naptownswing.wordpress.com because you don’t own that site. In fact, your account does not own any sites. That site was created and is owned by a completely different username, and your account has never been a user on that site.
If that site is yours, you need to log in as the username you used to create it in order to access it.

Many thanks timethief and kokkieh for looking into this. I am able to log in to naptownswing.wordpress.com so believe I have ownership of the site. I’ve taken screenshots for reference which you can find in the link below:

Hopefully you can view the slides but if not I’ll try posting the screenshots some other way.Cheers

That screen shot doesn’t mean you are logged into that site. It means you are logged in to your username account, melominor. But the username account melominor does not own any sites, which is why you don’t see any sites when you click the My Site link.
If you view ANY site on WordPress.com while logged in as melominor you will still see the bar across the top and that panel if you click your profile picture, but you won’t be able to edit any other site where you see that either.
To access the dashboard of naptownswing.wordpress.com you need to log out of the melominor account, and log in as the username that owns that site. Then you will see it listed under My Site and will be able to make edits.

I logged out of melominor and logged back in as (email visible only to moderators and staff), which is the email I used to register naptownswing.wordpress.com but still got logged in as melominor. Is there a way to see what username/email that site is registered under and I can try logging in as that?
When I first logged into naptownswing.wordpress.com the left navbar showed I owned two sites: naptownswing.wordpress.com and naptownswingcom.wordpress.com. I didn’t want the second one so deleted that site, but it seems the first one got deleted along with it.

The email address you gave above is the email address for THIS account, melominor. If you now, in this account, click on your profile icon and go to account settings you’ll see that gmail address.
naptownswing.wordpress.com belongs to a completely different username account using a completely different email address. The account that owns that site is over 5 years old. Your @melominor account was created a week ago. These are two completely different accounts.
I cannot tell you the email address used by the other account under any circumstances as that email address is how we verify your ownership. However, I have sent an email to the correct address. Please check all your email accounts, including the spam folder and the social and updates tabs in any gmail accounts for the email. If you can reply to that email I can help you access the correct account.
If you don’t receive the email, and can’t provide any other verification as required by our Account Recovery form, I won’t be able to help you with this.

Thanks for the hint. I found the admin email in my other gmail account and successfully logged into the dashboard for naptownswing.wordpress.com.
