Cannot edit tag and most of the post disappeared
-
I wanted to add a tag to an existing post but when I hit “edit” I could change the wording but couldn’t add a tag. As a result the post just has the title and “continue reading.” The text etc. is no longer displayed. How do I get it back on the blog?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

And what is the URL of the post?
You might try using the Back Arrow. Sometimes that works.

To locate draft POSTS Dashboard > Posts > All Post > Drafts
http://vintage45.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=postTo locate draft PAGES Dashboard > Pages> All Pages > Drafts
http://vintage45.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=pageProvided you did not create the post in the new Beep Beep Boop editor where it’s saved only on your browser, and is not auto-saved to the servers for your blog you may be able to recover a lost post or page.
If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-revisions/
See also if applicable > restoring from trash http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#restoring-from-trash(If you are referring to a Page then see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-revisions/)
I recommend:
1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
2. Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
3. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.
4. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
5. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.
6. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/If you cannot locate a revision or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.

Here’s the display on the blog. I went back into the dashboard by viewing all posts and narrowing it down to the date etc. No change.

Tried everything and nothing works. Since it’s just one post of everything from the past four and a half years I’ll leave it be. At least the header is still there.
Thanks for your advice.

The full post is displaying at the link you provided. My guess would be that you have a more tag titled “continue reading” at the top of the post. On the front page, therefore, the entire content of the post except the more tag is redacted.

This is one of my dense days. I couldn’t find what you mentioned. Where is the more tag? I checked edit and quick edit and couldn’t find anything like that.

I might be wrong about the More tag, but here’s what suggested to me that a More tag might be involved:
Aside from the “Continue reading” link, which might be a variation of the standard WordPressMore tag — note that a sample in the WordPress support page actually contains the “Continue reading” link rather than the “more” link I’ve always seen when I use this tag — you’ve a got a “#more” extension on the post link given above,http://vintage45.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/downton-abby-enough-already-2/#more-19131.
I don’t know what the purpose of this extension is. If you remove it, the post display appears exactly the same to me:
http://vintage45.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/downton-abby-enough-already-2.
Inserting a More tag at the top of a post on my main website, using the Koi theme would have that result, but its not necessarily the only thing that would cause the same effect.
Surprisingly, I was unable to reproduce the effect in a test blog using the Twenty Ten theme. The More tag had no effect whatsoever on the front page display of a post containing it.
I can’t see your post editor because I’m not WordPress Staff. I will tag the thread for Staff attention.

I meant the result you’ve described in the initial post, and which I’ve seen on your website.

On a second attempt on a test website I was able to reproduce precisely the same effect you’ve described using a More tag at the top of a post, while using the Twenty Ten theme, both the following:
1. the “Continue reading →” link, and
2. the post with the URL containing the More tag extension when you click on the “Continue reading →” link.I suggest you check the post http://vintage45.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/downton-abby-enough-already-2 for a More tag, in text editor mode.
The More tag will look like this: <!–more–> -

Thanks for all your help. I’m hanging on to these e-mails if this should happen again. I figured I would just repost it so I’m back in business.
Thanks again.
