Cannot edit widgets. They don’t open
-
1. I added the twitter widget to my sidebar.
2. I re-arranged the vertical layout of the widgets by dragging them up and down.
3. I clicked “Save Changes”
4. I click “Edit” on the twitter widget to enter account information. The widget title “box” expanded slightly while I had the mouse button down but nothing opened up.
5. I tried the other widgets with the same result, none of them will open when clicking edit. This also means I cannot remove widgets, as far as I can see.
I am using Firefox 3.0.7 as my browser.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No problems here, using the same browser.
Try logging out, doing the cookie dance and then log back in.
-
I assume “cookie dance” means deleting cookies.
1. Logged out
2. Erased cookies
3. Logged in
4. Same resultsAt this point I’m thinking maybe one of my plugins is breaking things. I don’t have many.

Ah, you have plugins? Then most likely you need to be over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ This is the support forum for WordPress.COM and we can’t use plugins here.

No, I’m sorry I was not clear. I have plugins in Firefox. My blog is hosted here on wordpress.com.
I looked at my plugins and can’t see where any would be making a problem.
Sigh. Again.

Given the number and variety of error reports, and also the number of Updates i’ve received in the last two days, I’m thinking there’s some unknown incompatibility that will show up sooner or later. That doesn’t solve the problem, but perhaps it will help point staff in the right direction.

Just contact staff via the Contact Support button and tell them, and give them a link to this thread. They’ll figure it out. I’ve just seen a bunch of vaguely similiar complaints in the past two days. I have a feeling they’re related.

Thanks. Sent the link to support.
I got around my current problem by using the Konqueror browser, which has it’s own problems but at least allowed me to edit the widget settings. This issue with Firefox needs to be fixed, though.

@dayleyagile, Not having any problems with your widgets in Firefox here. Are you waiting for the page to completely load before clicking the edit link? If you disable your Firefox add-ons, do you still have a problem?
-
Thanks for the attention.
I am waiting for the page update animation to stop. I assume that means the page is loaded before I click the edit link.
I have Adblock Plus, Screen Grab, Ubuntu Firefox Modifications and User Agent Switcher still enabled. Let me check if I disable them all…
Did not make a difference. When I click the Edit link on any widget at http://dayleyagile.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php, The widget “box” just gets a few pixels wider and taller while the mouse button is down. It then shrinks back to previous size as soon as the click stops. My guess is that the click and drag to arrange the widget is taking the click so that the Edit click is not recorded. That’s what it looks like to me.

Oh! Wait a minute.
I use a Wacom tablet for my mousing. I just tried to click with the button on my track pad. The track pad button works fine!
When clicking with the tablet, it’s highly probable (always happening?) that the down pressure on the stylus causes a few pixel move at the same time as the click. So the widget button code really is seeing a click-drag instead of just a click on the Edit link!
Is there a way in the widget code to make the click-drag less sensitive? Like make a 5 pixel move the threshold instead of just one pixel, if that is the current threshold. I’ll bet that would fix the problem.

I don’t know which Wacom tablet you’re using, but FWIW I just tried with mine (Graphire-1) by clicking on the “Edit” link in the widget bar with the pen and the widget opened completely.
-
I’m glad to hear it is working for you.
My tablet is a Graphire model too, I think. Only has a model number on the bottom. The issue may be with the driver or settings I am using. In that case it is out of the control of the WordPress programming. Too late to do anything about it tonight.
