Cannot embed photo from another website
-
I’ve been working on this for hours and nothing works. Even though the option to insert from url is there, is it possible that my theme does not support embedding a photo from another website?
Or, is there a trick that I have not found? I am using WordPress.com, not hosting my own site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Cannot embed photo from another website
Exactly which website?
Exactly which image?
Please provide URLs for both. Are you attempting to embed images that you do not have permission from the copyright holder to use?
Exactly what kind of device are you using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com?
Exactly which browser (and version of it) are you using? Check here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
See the accepted file types here please:

I am posting what I finally figured out to help anyone else who might have this problem. The key seems to be a server setting which controls whether or not images hosted on that server can be embedded. I was able to embed images from some websites but not others. The discussion of “permission” is confusing to anyone who does not have a lot of technical knowledge of how this works. It’s controlled by that server setting. So final answer – embedding images isn’t supposed to work for images hosted on many servers.

I love your bird pics!
Just a fyi, “permission” doesn’t have a technical meaning, it simply means permission from the author/ artist/ photographer to use (ie embed/ post/ whatever) their work on your site.
It’s a legal (and moral) issue, not a technical one!
Offended copyright owners do have legal ways to retaliate if they are upset about their images being used without permission. If you are trying to embed something that the copyright holder explicitly allows to be shared that way, you’re fine. -

Thanks for the compliment! I agree about the ethical issues and was not suggesting that anyone do something that violates another person’s rights. I just want to clarify that a server setting controls whether or not you are able to embed photos from websites hosted on that server. If the owner give you “permission” to use his photos, but the server setting won’t allow embedding, you can’t embed those photos! In the instructions on WordPress for embedding a photo, it does not state that you can do this only if the server setting allows it. I spent hours being frustrated because I thought I was doing something wrong only to find out that the instructions were missing this key info.
