What’s the URL of the blog you’re trying to comment on?

  • Unknown's avatar

Beau says in the sticky post that the comment has been fixed. It hasn’t. I have just succeeded in posting a comment to a friend’s blog after much work, including changing my WordPress logon – people assume logically that their WordPress logon is the one they use for their WordPress blog. Wrong! And then you get assigned a stupid username like, for instance, “f8-33i04e9f0b6032a99j7786368738d595” Will this appear next to my avatar forever? Oh joy! This is a terrible system. and it was such hard work to leave a comment, this will kill blogging as an interactive system of writing forever.

…okay, now what’s the URL for the blog you’re trying to comment on?

  • Unknown's avatar

    http://bentghost.wordpress.com/

http://bluemilk.wordpress.com/ has also had the problem for a few weeks, I haven’t been to that blog for a couple of days but I believe the problem is still current there.

  • Unknown's avatar

The bluemilk site is blocked by Nortons DNS and so there is a virus or porn on that site.

I posted a comment on the other site (ghost site) and subject to moderation it should display soon.

The message for the porn site is this:

    http://tinyurl.com/7ekhdzy

Now you guys should know that porn is strictly prhibitted for open sites. they should be marked as Mature/Adult site.

I posted a comment on the other site (ghost site) and subject to moderation it should display soon.

But how did you manage to do so with your proper avatar name instead of that monstrosity that appears next to my avatar on this page? I’ve had that avatar for years without any problems, until now.

I very much doubt that there is anything on Blue Milk’s site as it’s a highly trafficked and heavily linked blog and someone would have noticed by now I’m sure, but I’ll let her know.

It could be that it has been attacked by hackers. I am sure the Staff at WP/Automatic will sort it out on Monday.

Sorry I can’t help because I am just an ordinary user like you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmm, did not make that clear enough: Unless Blue Milk has been hacked, which is unlikely to go unnoticed due to the large no’s of regulars (including one or two SysAdmins and numerous open source geeks), the only reason you would be getting that Norton message is because the blog deals with parenting and feminism, hence numerous references to breasts (as in feeding, but also discussing sexualisation in the media), r@pe, and other topics and images which might cause your Norton program to return a false positive for pr0n.

  • Unknown's avatar

Possibly. Mistakes are always made by the robots and we humans can’t help it.

  • Unknown's avatar

…both sites are loading just fine. There has been no hacking.

I managed to go the Ghost site but not the other one but this is due to my system blocking all forms of porn or sites perceived as porn. I am not saying the other site is a porn but my system is blocking it and I have posted a copy of the message I am getting.

  • Unknown's avatar

I should have added that I am missing out on porn but what can I do? My system isn’t giving me anything!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Great. The problem is on your end, and has nothing to do with the blogs. Change your personal settings and good luck in the future.

jtanna01, you’re drifting the thread off topic. You’re obviously getting false positives. End of. Check the setup of your Norton – I don’t know about it because I don’t use it, but it’s obviously too restrictive.

The topic of the thread was – how can we get help with this comment problem? If it’s a feature and not a bug, perhaps it’s badly designed and will discourage commenters, right at the moment where Farcebook and Twitter are taking commenters away from WordPress and other blogging platforms? is that really what they want?

  • Unknown's avatar

Norton is notorious for false positives.

@g2- , this thread has been tagged for staff attention and I think they are the only ones that can help you straighten this out. The new comment system is less than optimal (understatement) but requiring log in to comment is the new normal on the web and it is due to problems such as impersonation and such. The implementation of this is obviously far from un-buggy.
