cannot find autosave.

After over an hour of revising my page I simply clicked on ‘add a caption’ to a picture. It brought me to a blank page with only the title remaining.
Unable to to go back or undo – I go to my revisions under History and the latest one is from when I started. I have been saving and have had internet connection the entire time. Is there any place I’m not looking ?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @ mjp321, ah, sorry about that! A few questions:
– Which page or post is affected? Can you send the title so we can check on it for you?
– Which editor were you using? We’ve got a few apps, wp-admin classic, wp-admin’s new editor, wordpress.com/post … also which browser are you using?
– Is there any chance you’ve got more than one editor tab/app open for the page or post?
-
Noting if you’re not sure which editor you’re using, you can send a link to the page you’re on when you edit. We’ll be able to figure it out from there.

Hey thanks for the reply. I did have a couple tabs open and realize if one had the old page up and I altered it in some way it would autosave that older version. I do not think this happened but maybe possible?
I only have the free version and edit from updated Chrome browser and have no additional editors installed (that I installed or am aware of?) My partner who I am doing the page with said she had an issue with trying to add a caption as well but was fixed when she went back or was autosaved right before. Mine simply became a blank page and my only autosave was one that was timed an hour previous, which was not correct as I revised a lot of the page. There was no loss of wifi and if there was it was brief and should have been updated at one point either way.
Not sure if its limited function because its the free version etc.. just strange how 2 our of 4 pictures on a page were sent to a new page with the title of the page and only the picture after clicking the ‘add a caption’ button on an image. The picture we have of mules on a trail sent me to a page with no image and just the title after clicking the ‘add a caption’. The other pictures simply had no issue and added the default box under the picture with room for text.
Post page:
https://wordpress.com/post/mikeandvivianstravels.wordpress.com/163We are getting a feel for this site before purchasing and so far its great but this certainly was a drawback. Any ideas on why this happened or how to be sure it doesn’t happen again please let me know.
Thanks again for your time

That’s probably exactly what happened, unfortunately. Using one tab at a time is the best prevention.
The editors and apps are basically the same for all of our plans, unless you get a business plan and add plugins that change the editor.
Did you happen to scroll through the other options in the history to see if something else was there?
Re: trouble adding the images, could you send links to the new pages those went to, and did they have any history?
-
Yea tried several options to recover it and find the proper ‘history’ time within a couple minutes of losing the revisions.. I opened a new tab but there was only three times to choose from in the history. One was 1 hour and the next one was over 8 hours previous and one around 20 hours I think.
I found that deleting the photos and adding a new caption worked like it should. I’m not sure but will be careful to use only one tab, does it erase all the revisions and history if you do any kind of revisions from an older tab? I don’t want to test it personally but curious.
Its probably just user error but I couldn’t see any other options to recover the revisions but I would think the newest revisions would save somewhere and not be voided completely with an older tabs auto update.
thanks again- -

I’m not sure about that, but the editor was not designed to be used in multiple tabs at once, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it caused a conflict. If anything is “broken” here, it’s the fact that you didn’t get a warning that you were already editing the post in another tab – that warning shows on multi-user sites if two people are trying to edit the same post, and the second user specifically has to take over the session, forcing a save of the first user’s session before control switches.
Most likely your actions in additional tabs were simply not synced at all, because our system only recognised the first tab you opened as a valid editing session, given that the new tabs never “took over”.
