Cannot find Classic Editor

@richardmitnick we do appreciate your providing of examples, that does help a lot.

Looking at the example page, I think it might be a problem with your theme – the P2 Classic theme is retired:

    https://wordpress.com/theme/p2

Since this theme has been retired, it would not have received updates to work with newer versions of WordPress, so you might need to look at a new theme.

I would recommend exploring the themes that have the “microformats” feature which will give you more flexibility with posting code and other formatted content:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/microformats

I would recommend created a free testing site to try a new theme out with the content you regularly post since you would not be able to switch back to P2 Classic on your sciencesprings blog since the theme has been retired.

Or, you could give the new P2 a spin to see if that might work as well:

Let us know if the problem persists with a non-retired theme and we’ll take a closer look. Thanks!

I have no problem with the P2 Classic theme and plan to continue using it.

It has all the tools I need and other themes lacked some of them. You will need a herd of buffalo to pull me away from P2 Classic. Why was it retired?

Hi again Richard, WordPress.com regularly retires themes for any number of reasons. In the case of the P2 classic, there’s a newer version of P2 that is similar and yet different from the older one. I have both versions and your test post posted correctly in my older P2 after I removed the “curly” quotes that I mentioned in my earlier reply.

One thing about retired themes, as helper-heroponriki said, they are no longer updated other than for security, so at some point in the future WordPress.com might roll out a feature that will break the theme. You don’t have to change themes, but let us know what “tools” you need so we can give you a more informed suggestion.

Please send me a link to the new P2 and I will look at it.

    Thanks.

    Sorry-

There is no image or other expression of the theme. Also, I searched themes looking for the theme and could not find it.

All your link set me to is a web page for someone who is just getting started and I am not getting started. The web page I got was the developer’s page. I want to see the theme displayed in front of me so that I see what WordPress tools are available. Not all themes have all of the tools.

Can you lead me to a clear exposition of the theme and not the developer’s page?

    Thanks for your help.

  • P2 is essentially a similar, but different, product. It cannot be applied to existing WordPress.com sites, but you can get started with P2 and export/import your content over to the new P2.

I searched all themes. It did not show up.

I want to see it before I try using it. Why does it not show up in the display of themes?

    Thanks.

Hello again, as staff-blorbo said, the new P2 is a separate product from our regular WordPress.com websites, so you can’t “activate” it on an existing WordPress.com site like you could with the old P2. However, once you sign up for it at the link that staff-blorbo provided, you’ll find it in your WordPress.com My Sites.

You can take a look at a live P2 site at p2feedback.wordpress.com where users of the new P2 can report possible bugs, ask questions, and leave feedback. The new P2 also has its own support guide at https://p2help.wordpress.com/

Edited: And you can read about the new P2 in this WordPress.com announcement where you can see screenshots as well.
