Cannot find Network admin on WordPress multisite
-
Hello, I am having trouble uploading the new theme to my wordpress site. From what I understand, since I have multisite, this has to be done through “Network Admin” but I simply could not find it anywhere.
After I logged into my wordpress, on the left hand there is a menu bar which I can go to Personalize > Themes which I see a bunch of themes from WordPress but there is no upload button.
On the very bottom of the menu, there is a “WP Admin” which bring me to the Dashboard page. I checked the Appearance > Themes, and again, bunch of WordPress themes but no upload button.
I googled this issue and see few photos that show “Network Admin” on the drop down menu under My Sites. And I don’t have that drop down menu at all. When I click on My Sites button, it just shows which site I am on and the menu bar with Personalize > Themes that doesn’t have upload button.
Can anyone please tell me where to find the Network admin or how to upload the theme? Thank you so much!

Hi there, in general you can find all the information for working with your WordPressdotcom site at our Support site https://en.support.wordpress.com/
if you are referring to the site at printathome.wordpress.com you can use any of the 350+ free and premium themes found in our dashboard or at https://wordpress.com/themes/ but we cannot upload any 3rd party custom themes. See more about this here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
If you wish to use a custom theme, you can move your site to a web hosting provider and use the standalone WP (org) software. Here’s more about the differences between WordPressdotcom (where we are) and the standalone WP (org) software: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Let us know if you have any other question about that.

Hi Justjennifer,
Thank you! I did not know that (I still have so much to learn).
Does that also mean if I need to use my own domain name, I have to get a web hosting first as well?

Hello again, for a website to be visible on the Internet, it has to have a domain, whether it is mysite.com or mysite.wordpress.com. However, mysite.wordpress.com can only be used here on WordPressdotcom. If you want to add a custom domain to your WordPressdotcom site, you can do that with any of the paid upgrade plans. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Running and maintaining your own install of the WP (org) software does require a lot more technical know-how and should something go wrong with your site, you are the one who will need to fix it.
If you are just starting out, you might consider building your site here on WordPressdotcom. You didn’t mention which theme you purchased and why, but with the number of themes available here, you likely will find one that will suit your needs. If you need suggestions, let us know.
Once you are comfortable with how things work, you can move your entire site to a standalone WP (org) install on 3rd party hosting.
