Cannot find ProPhoto in Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi All,

I recently purchased WordPress and mapped it to my own domain, with GoDaddy as the host.

I’ve installed WordPress on Go Daddy and purchased ProPhoto themes and installed that via ftp.

Problem is, on wordpress, I see Themes under Appearance but I cannot Add any new Themes, nor can I see P3 (Pro Photo 3).

    Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You “purchased” WordPress? WordPress software is free. I see that you have a blog hosted at WordPress.com, http://tanyastafford.wordpress.com/ . You also appear to have webspace at GoDaddy to which you have added WordPress software.

External themes cannot be added to http://tanyastafford.wordpress.com/. They are only for blogs hosted elsewhere, such as the one you have at GoDaddy. You will not be able to add any themes to your blog hosted here.

Sorry, I meant that I purchased mapping so that .wordpress isn’t in my address.

My domain is tanyastaffordblog.com and points to my wordpress blog.

I added my theme to my Go Daddy but the themes still don’t show on my wordpress dashboard.

So, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Any suggestions on what I need to do to get this up and running? Thanks!

If you want to use a theme not available on WordPress.Com, then you will have to use the software you downloaded and upload the site of your choice.

In which case you will want your money back for the domain mapping.

Best for you to read about the two distinct different and separate kinds of WordPress so you can make an informed decision:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You may wish to inquire about getting your money back for the theme.

    Ok. modlook and staff look

Why? They didn’t sell it to her?

    @raincoaster

No, I did not mean money back for the theme! NO. I don’t know that she paid for the theme: are there not lots of ‘free” wp.org themes available?

But she paid for mapping a domain, and she can’t use it with the theme she wants. If the OP has her heart (mind, patience, knowledge, skill) set on the theme she wants, then she must do it with the self-hosting option.

    O
She has to choose one or the other,
or go to Blogger, or any of the many other blogging platforms…
    or
    what?
write a diary with a tiny little key and lock…

I really don’t believe tanyastafford understands the difference between .com and .org…

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

She said she purchased a theme and uploaded it via FTP. I’m just wondering where she uploaded it to?

Thanks for your comments. I’m sure I must’ve done something wrong but let me explain what I would like to do vs. what I have done :)

    1) I signed up with WordPress.com with the hopes of using my own theme or at least try to change one of the themes available.

    2) Since I didn’t really like the look of tanyastafford.wordpress.com, I opted to have it map to tanyastaffordblog.com (tanyastaffordblog.com is on GoDaddy)

    3) I read somewhere that I had to have the WordPress application on Go Daddy, so I did that with no problems.

    4) Through difference resources, I found that if I wanted to install a theme, I would need to ftp it to my Go Daddy/wordpress/wp-content/themes. Everything uploaded with no problem. However, after doing that, none of those themes are available via the WordPress Dashboard.

    5) I then found out about Pro Photo and thought that would be the best way to go, as their interface seems really user friendly, so I purchased that. According to their instructions, I just need to upload it to my ftp (which I did) and it would appear on my wordpress dashboard under Appearance (which it didn’t).

    So, I’m really confused.

All I want is a ProPhoto theme that I can change, on my own domain :)

Here’s the end to your confusion. There is no FTP access to wordpress.COM blogs and we cannot upload themes into them. Please read this entry Tess posted the link to http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

On this forum we provide support only to those who have free blogs being free hosted by WordPress.COM. All those who have any other web host must post to this forum for support http://wordpress.ORG/support.

What’s key here is the web host and not the fact you have a domain. Many of us wordpress.COM bloggers have purchased domains and domain mapping for our blogs, which are being free hosted by wordpress.COM and that changes nothing when it comes to FTP access and uplaoading themes – it’s still a no can do.

The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/
