You need to be logged in as the EXACT account / user that owns the Upgrade to renew it. Do you have another account that might have purchased the upgrade?
What do you see for upgrade status at:
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades
Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History -

Thank you for the answer. This site does not belong to me, I just started administrating the site a few months ago. The person who purchased the domain name is not in contact with us. Is it possible to renew this any other way?

No. The sole owner of every blog is the person with the username account that registered the blog and who is the original Admin. They can maker another username account and Admin and transfer the blog to them http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account But Staff cannot just gift anyone with a blog that belongs to someone else.

It looks like the domain name is registered to a George……
George is the ONLY one that can renew it – you need to contact George and get him to transfer it to the proper person –
Domain names are the tough renewals when the person left the organization. There are internet rules to prevent fraud and to safeguard the domain name owners
All other upgrades here can be finessed a bit because when they expire they have a hard expire date and after the expire date the staff can clear records of the upgrades and someone can purchase it again – but domain names have a long period where they don’t work and domain names can also be bought and held hostage

Hello Jackie,
We were able to retrieve the account that was used to originally register the domain. If I try to renew the website now, I am being asked a late fee of $80.
I am sorry but, is it possible to waive this fee as this account was under dispute? It is too much of a fee to pay for the renewal.
You help in this matter would be highly appreciated.

I’m sorry I didn’t see your response soon, as I was waiting on the domain registrant to respond.
Once an expired domain has fallen into the redemption period, the $80 fee is imposed on all domains by our registrar, and we are obligated to remit that payment to renew a domain.
