Cannot finish site setup, goes to blank page

    Hello
    I am trying to move my wordpress site from self-hosted to wordpress.com but it looks like something is busted in my account. In the Domain section, my domain shows status error with the message ‘We noticed that something wasn’t updated correctly. Please try this setup again.’ but when I click the setup link, it briefly flashes then next page with options and then the page goes blank. I have tried this process in Firefox and Chromium and the behavior duplicates. I don’t want to transfer my domain registration or nameservers, just set up A records.

    Hi there,

    To move your site from your current host to our managed service on WordPress.com we recommend that you do NOT change your domain settings at this time.

    Instead, we recommend the following steps in order:

    1. Create a new (empty) WordPress.com site at this link: https://wordpress.com/start/
    2. When going through the steps to set up your site, choose the “wordpress.com” domain option for now
    3. Import your content from your existing site to the new WordPress.com site you set up: https://wordpress.com/support/import/
    4. After you import your content, take time to make sure everything on this end is correct and the site you see at the WordPress.com address is “ready to launch”
    5. As a last step (at the very end) you can then connect your domain to your site here, which will seamlessly replace the old site with one on WordPress.com

    When you are ready to connect your domain, let us know and we can walk you through that process in detail at that time, thanks!

    Hello

    When I try to follow these directions, I don’t get any option for using the wordpress.com domain and it is requiring me to purchase a plan. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Jared,

    I can see a free site created in your account just ten minutes before your last reply here, jaredathomas.wordpress.com, so you’ve already completed that process.

    To get to that site, click on My Sites in the top left corner, then on Switch Site. You’ll see two sites listed there – the WordPress.com site you just created, and your Jetpack-connected site, http://opensourcenirvana.com/

    Click on either one to go to the WordPress.com dashboard of the particular site.
